Christine White, Art - Paint Harmonic (Portrait)

I am a Southern California-based artist working in paint for the past 15 years. I’ve lived all over the United States and appreciate what makes different regions unique and special. My interest in conveying a sense of place is imbued in my work, and supported by a professional background and Masters in geography.

My art style is representational, and blends the worlds of fine art and imagination. I tend to portray surreal stories of places, plants, and creatures. Working primarily in oil, I experiment with the surfaces I paint on. This has resulted in reverse paintings on glass, mirrors, masks, and instrument decor, while returning to traditional painting like home after a journey abroad. The story of light is as ubiquitous as the exploration of place in my work. Light draws me to a particular setting and moment.

Philosophy, i.e., Paint Harmonic: In music, harmony means bringing together sounds that support or co-create the melody. In visual art, there are similar opportunities for this co-creation. One is the relationship between energy, memory, and history in the real world as interpreted in paint. Another is what happens when a viewer connects with an art piece – the way the literal wavelengths of light and breath entwine.
